In March and April, 1998, Dr Charles Lane accompanies a group of east African community leaders and their
legal representatives (including a Maasai MP from Tanzania and High Court Judge from Kenya) to Australia to meet with Aboriginal Australians,
their community leaders, and supporters. By bringing together community leaders who are engaged
in on-going and strategic land struggles, their lawyers and advisers in related cases, as well as selected
MPs and/or judges from the two continents, it is hoped links will be forged between Africans and Australians
that can mutually advance their struggle for land rights and provide enduring benefits to them both into the
next Millennium. A return visit of Aboriginal Australians to Africa is planned for 1999.
