Aboriginal Tent Embassy
A visit to the Tent Embassy proved to be an inspirational experience. We found a common sense of purpose and were impressed with the commitment of Aboriginal people to maintain a presence at the very seat of government. We enjoyed sharing perspectives with Ray Swan, Isabelle Coe and other residents who explained their strategy in confronting Australians with the reality that they were the original occupiers of this land. Of particular significance was the maintenance of a fire smoking the Old Parliament Building symbolising Aboriginal authority over the area. We also enjoyed the fact that young people were painting a huge mural on the forecourt of the Old Parliament Building representing the Garden of Eden.
